Things we've wasted:
1 1/2 popovers
Most of Kip's dinner tonight (not that I'm tattling or anything; it really was a bust of a dinner)
lots of bread crusts. Also an unpleasant number of half or partially eaten sandwiches
2 bowls raw corn soup--it just didn't work for any of us; I couldn't bring myself to eat the rest
Also: we had our fridge stop working for a day. That's frustrating. We saved most of the food by throwing it in the freezer, but we did lose our mayo, Mir. whip, half a loaf of bread (that got taken out of the freezer to make room and that went bad earlier than it would have had it been frozen) and some Ranch dressing. Those things aren't really our fault, but they did go in the garbage.
1/2 C tomato sauce
partially drunk cups/sippy cups of milk here and there

-Oodles of bread crusts, though the geese have gotten lots this month too.
-Crackers with PB--bits here and there. it drives me a little crazy, but what to do.
-A little bit of applesauce from kids' lunches.

Milk Share: 17.00, but I'm only counting half of that because I'm a cheater--I mean because I consider that a service to the community and even though at this time of year I don't get as much milk as I'd like, I want to hold my spot and support the farm.

What We've Wasted:
Lots of bread crusts as usual, but also more bread than usual. I find so much rice on the floor after we serve it that it must be enough to feed a small country. There's often a bit of milk left in my kids' cups, which is criminal considering how very much we spend on milk. Pretty much no candy or chocolate chips have ever been wasted. My kids have even been known to lick spilled sugar off the counter (have I mentioned I'm not opening a restaurant any time soon). Our sour cream got close so I threw it in the freezer which I've never done before--we'll see how it goes. And the spinach got sketchy so I threw the rest in the freezer to be used in smoothies.

March

I'll be filling this in as I go. There will be 2 categories: 1) Things I use in full and 2) Things I use in part. Of course, the cost of the things I use in full will be easy and the cost of the things I use in part will be an estimate on my part. With stuff like mayo, oil, ketchup, etc. I plan to use the method of drawing a line on the container at the beginning of the month and then another line at the end of the month and estimating about how much has been used. Scientific, I know.

Whoa, what happened. I went to the store and several things have jumped up in price. Like, they'd gone up 20-25 cents in a week or two. Can the food industry not at least creep them up so we don't get slapped in the face like that. Oh well, when the going gets tough, the tough eat chocolate cake (just kidding, I'm caked out right now--give me a couple weeks).

Here's a list of things I've purchased so far, planning to use them for this month. What we've gotten free:
-Lots of chocolate at Christmas-time--a big chunk, discs, ice cream mix-ins, and plenty of candy/cookies
-A few mixes from Kip's parents at Thanksgiving time: Rolls, pancake, muffins
-Foods from our dear friends who moved (and the only maybe potentially good part about their leaving): a few cubes butter, a few sticks margarine, tons of cheese (yes), a bit of cream, some chicken nuggets, stovetop stuffing, some oatmeal, a full bottle of canola oil, odds and ends like ketchup, lime juice, jam, an onion, some garlic, and surely some other things that I'm forgetting at the moment since I didn't post this a couple weeks ago when I should have.
-Coconut oil: A gift from one of my best friends
-A whole bunch of tilapia that a guy from Kip's work thawed and couldn't use.

What we've wasted this month:
Bread crusts, a whole lot of bread crusts
2 egg whites
some milk from kids' cereals or left in cup and discovered by me later in day
cereal the kids get and can't eat sometimes
1/2 egg
leftover stuff from kids' cereal, etc.
